How to prepare to travel abroad for Cosmetic Surgery

Consult Your Physician

Before considering cosmetic surgery abroad, it is important for you to consult your physician. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends you talk to your practitioner at least four to six weeks before travel. Make sure you are healthy enough and a good candidate for the procedure you want. Ask about the particular destination where you’re seeking treatment, if there are any medications or vaccines needed for traveling. Discuss the procedure you are planning to undergo. Ask for all your medical records and any other documents the medical doctor abroad will need.

Travel with a Companion

It is also highly recommended that you travel with a companion or member of the family. If this is not possible, let your loved ones and family know of your travel plans in detail. Let them know ahead of time where they can contact you at all times. Set a time every day that you’ll check in by phone or email. Staying connected with them during your travel will give you and your loved ones peace of mind. Make sure to set who your emergency contact  is and have the information ready when making your travel plans.

Get help from a Travel Health Provider

Find a travel health provider to assist you. Let them know what procedures are looking for. The will help you find the right medical tourism destination. They will make the medical appointment and all travel reservations needed for you.

Contact the medical facility and the doctor who will be treating you. Discuss the procedure and ask any questions you may have.

What to ask your doctor regarding the Cosmetic Surgery you’re considering

  • How many times have you performed the procedure?
  • Am I a good candidate for the procedure?
  • What type of anesthesia will I receive, and who will provide my anesthesia?
  • How long will my recovery take and what will my it be like?
  • What are the risks of complications?

Again discuss these with your regular physician before undergoing the procedure.
